Event Description
Anna Ornstein’s paper “Do Words Matter? Further Comments on the Interpretive Process and the Theory of Change” is one of our favorite Ornstein papers. Delivered as the opening plenary at IAPSP's 2008 conference on Interpretation--followed by Shelley Doctors' “Interpretation as a Relational Process”--this paper illuminates how interpretation unfolds within an empathic analytic relationship. Anna invites us to think carefully about how we listen for defensive structure while staying attuned to the patient’s experience.

Join us as we discuss her timely ideas about how feeling understood is necessary for words to be meaningful.
